Index of occurence in Slovakia:

    1. EXCEPTIONAL      1 - 2 localities
   2. RARE
                  3 - 6 localities
   3. INFREQUENT
         7 - 15 localities
   4. ABUDANT
  15 - 50 localities
   5. MORE ABUDANT
  > 50 localities

Identification rating of mineral in Slovakia:

 1. WELL IDENTIFIED - mostly combination at least 2 most distinguished analytical methods (X -ray diffraction and electron microprobe)

2. PARTIALLY-INDENTIFIED - mineral mostly analyzed, but for well identification is need to make another analyses

3. UNDERIDENTIFIED - mineral mostly identified only visual, often very problematic or fictive

Valentinite, vanadinite, variscite, vashegyite, vesuvianite, violarite, vivianite, volborthite, voltaite.

Variscite       AlPO4·2H2O         orth.

Index of occurence in Slovakia: 1                                             Identification rating of mineral in Slovakia: 1
Type locality: lom Meßbach, Altmannsgrün, Plauen, Vogtland, Saxony, Germany (Breithaupt, 1837)
Oldest description from Slovakia area: Sirk - Železník (Zimányi, 1909)
Localities in Slovak Republic (2) and identification rating (in parenthesis): Sirk - Železník (1), Špania Dolina (3)
Size: macroscopic
Largest crystal from Slovakia area: - ; only massive aggregates was found up to now (in Slovak Republic)

Variscite from Železník; field of view ~ 2 cm (Photo D. Ozdín)

Variscite from Železník; field of view ~ 2 cm (Photo D. Ozdín)

Notes: Fiala (1937) mentioned variscite from Špania Dolina. Probably is concerned mistaken evidence because in Špania Dolina do not occur phosphate minerals.

Index of occurence in Slovakia: 3                                              Identification rating of mineral in Slovakia: 1
Type locality: Wheal Kind (Wheal Kine), St. Agnes, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom (Werner, 1817)
Oldest description from Slovakia area: Dobšiná (Cotta & Fellenberg, 1862)
Localities in Slovak Republic (12) and identification rating (in parenthesis): Ardovo (3), Baška (2), Dobšiná (1), Kremnica (2), Lúčka (3), Medzev (3), Námestovo (3), Poniky (1), Ruská (1), Sirk (3), Smolník (3), Zvolenská Slatina (2)
Size: macroscopic
Largest crystal from Slovakia area: 1 cm, lamellar aggregates up to 4 cm (Dobšiná; Szakáll et al., 2002)

Vivianite from Poniky; size of crystals ~ 0.8 mm (Photo D. Ozdín)

Vivianite from Poniky; size of crystals ~ 0.8 mm (Photo D. Ozdín)

Notes: Finds of blue cover of vivianite in sediments of Slovakia are often very thin and x-ray amorphous such that is impossible in practice say that is it vivianite.

Type locality: Solomirskii Cu mine, Yugovskii Zavod, Perm, Middle Ural, Russia (Hess, 1837)
Oldest description from Slovakia area: Kociha (Novák et al., 2003)
Localities in Slovak Republic (2) and identification rating (in parenthesis):  Kociha (1), Sirk - Železník (3)
Size: macroscopic
Largest crystal from Slovakia area: 0.4 mm, spherulitic agreggates up to 0.8 mm (Kociha; Novák et al., 2003)

Volborthite on alophane (Kociha); field of view 2.5 mm (Photo D. Ozdín)

Notes: Mention about occurrence of volborthite is from locality Železník near Sirk (Hyršl & Korbel) probably mistaken. This one is include in the list of minerals in locality and no another data about this mineral does not exist and wasn´t published.
